Local accommodation suggestions

Hay-on-Wye, our local town.

Hay-on-Wye, our local town.

If you are not staying with us, there is a good choice of local accommodation.

We are located at LD2 3UJ, between Erwood and Painscastle. We are north of Talgarth, south of Builth Wells and north west of Hay-on-Wye.  A good place to start is Hay-on-Wye and there’s a good selection on Airbnb too - we’d recommend basing a search around Glasbury/Hay-on-Wye/Erwood/Talgarth/Painscastle.

We have not stayed at any of these places but have had recommendations for many of them and they are all within a 20 minute drive. If you are using other accommodation sites, please do check the distances from our postcode before booking.

B&B/guest houses/self-catering

Wigwam Holidays Builth. Glamping pods at our lovely neighbours’ farm across the river (walkable from here). Please mention us when you book as a special rate may be applicable!

Rhydspence Inn (new on our list and recommended by friends)

Tyruched House

Hay-on-Wye B&Bs

The Roast Ox Inn, Painscastle. This is the closest to us (4 miles) and has 8 rooms. They excelled themselves looking after the local community with fish and chips during lockdown - but I have no first hand accommodation reviews to pass on. Mention us (Anna Cooley) when you book.

The Black Mountain Lodge, Glasbury (6 miles).  This has received good reviews from our students.

The Felinfach Griffin, Brecon.  Great food, we've eaten there several times. Lovely rooms too, by all accounts. About 20 minutes’ drive from us.

Hafod-y-Garreg, Erwood.  This is a bit special if you like old houses - it's thought to be the oldest house in Wales, built in 1402.  Amazing-sounding meals served by the owners.
