Our workshops

have been formed with the aim of providing a level of tuition in the arts which respects the fundamental skills of looking, seeing and making.  The courses we offer have, at their roots, skills which are traditional, and most are suitable for complete beginners.

Simon Cooley

has been teaching for 30 years and has always been a working sculptor.  He works in forged metal, stone and clay.  He exhibits regularly in the UK and his work is in private collections internationally.  He also runs short courses for Central St Martin’s School of Art in London.  Visit his sculpture site here: www.simoncooley.com

This weekend was really important for me. I was condemned by every art and craft teacher as being unsuited and unskilled in all things artistic.

Please click here for a printable booking form.

Please complete the form and send it to us together with a cheque for £150 deposit. Cheques to be made out to Simon Cooley and sent to StudySculpture Workshops, Molebutton Cottage, Cwm Lane, Govilon, Abergavenny, NP7 9RY.  Receipt will be acknowledged by email.

There is plenty of choice for local bed & breakfast and country house accommodation, for which we will provide an accommodation list. Abergavenny is very popular with tourists in the summer, so early booking is highly recommended.  Click here for our multimap location: www.multimap.com/maps/

Payment

A deposit of £150 is required with all bookings.  Receipt of deposit will be acknowledged.  Full balance is payable 6 weeks in advance of course start date - you will receive a reminder.

What's included in the price

All working materials and equipment, delicious home-cooked lunches and refreshments.

What's not included in the price

Plaster cast/firing of heads.  For Sculpting the Head students, please be aware that the head you construct in clay will either need to be fired or cast, if you wish to keep it (for courses without casting option included). If you have access to a kiln, your head can be constructed in such a way that you can take it away on the head peg to be fired. In the event that you take the head away with you at the end of the course, the cost of the head peg and clay is £30. Or you can pay Simon to make a plaster cast of your head for a sum in the region of £190 (this is three days' work).

Access and facilities

Unfortunately, we have no wheelchair access to the studio, which is sited above the house on a hill and requires a 100m walk, including some steps.  It is worth contacting us to discuss any questions you may have in this respect.

Cancellation

The deposit is non-refundable.  However, if, at a point 6 weeks in advance of course start date, your preferred course is under-subscribed, we will offer you an alternative course.  If no alternative is suitable, we will refund your deposit.  We regret that if you cancel within the 6 week period leading up to the course start, no refund will be given.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact Anna or Simon. You can call us on 01873 830410 or click here to send us an email.
